Migrating off Magento without losing your rankings
A 12,000-URL Shopify Plus migration with zero traffic loss. Here's the playbook.
Most Magento → Shopify migrations lose 30%+ of organic traffic. Some lose all of it. The cause is almost always the same: insufficient pre-launch SEO work.
Last quarter we ran a 12,000-URL migration with zero traffic loss. Here's what we did differently.
First, two weeks of pre-migration audit. Every URL in the existing site was inventoried, traffic-weighted, and mapped to a target URL on the new platform. Schema markup was preserved or upgraded. Internal linking was preserved.
Second, two days of staging-side QA. The new site was indexed by a private crawler and every redirect tested. Search Console URL inspection was used on the top 100 URLs.
Third, 60 days of post-launch monitoring. Daily checks on rankings, indexing, and 404s. Anything that drifted was fixed within hours.
It's unsexy work. It's also the difference between a successful migration and a brand-damaging one.
